PESCARA 2009 | Mediterranean Games Ceremonies

Produced by

30,000 spectators, 1,300 volunteer performers and 23 nations celebrated the opening of the Mediterranean Games.

To begin with, a powerful sense of humanity was demonstrated by all the participants with a tribute dedicated to the victims of the Aquila earthquake. The Ceremonies also honored the values of sports using the traditional culture and iconography of the Italian region hosting the games: Abruzzo.

For the first time in the history of Mediterranean Games the “water ceremony” took place during the Opening, becoming a leitmotiv of this sport event and being reproduced in the next ceremonies.
